YTH2412 – Rā Tuarua – Day 2

We had some keen and loud early risers this morning, which lead to everyone getting up at 0620 and having our 0700 swim early! From there the new team got their first taste of the morning routine, splitting into sail station groups for below and above deck cleaning and food prep. This was followed by breakfast made by our captain. After breakfast, we went back into sail station groups and did engine checks and navigation, learning how to raise the anchor, and dishes. Everyone had a go at putting on a harness and climbing up and over the rigging and then we practiced setting and taking down the sails before setting off for real.

Our sail today took us across the bay, through Kent Passage, and around Moturoa to the shelter of the Black Rocks. The trainees picked it up pretty well, showing promise for a Day 6 takeover.. Once at our new anchorage, half of us went for a walk to the old WW2 gun emplacements, while the others went for a snorkel and gathered some kina.

Our big, long day finished off with some having a fish off the deck and others relaxing in the saloon. Rach cooked us an epic honey chicken dinner and we won’t be far off bed probably!

Hope you’re all doing well at home,

Us
