YTH2413 – Rā Tuatoru – Day 3

Sorry whānau for the late post as we had some communication issues….

We woke this morning to a beautifully calm Paradise Bay. By the end of our morning swims the first bit of wind had just come in to start roughing it up a bit. We got into second round of chores followed by a yum breakfast from Arihi. After dishes it was time to go to shore and meet Project Island Song for weta punga monitoring.

No weta tracks this week, just cheeky mioweka. Once back to the ship we quickly upped anchor and moved around the corner to Waewaetorea Passage. We had lunch and a quick debrief in our small sail station groups (halfway through our 3 stations!) and then got in wetsuits to go and explore a special Tucker swim through dive spot.

Everyone had a fun time in the water, rock jumping and gathering some kina before we went back to the ship and set sail for real this time back across the Bay to Rangihoua. A picturesque evening sail with the perfect breeze keeping us cruising at just under 4 knots. Still a bit of action out in the water too with sea birds, dolphins and some sort of small whale blowing off in the distance. The trainees have learned their lines well so far and are getting used to the sailing life. We all await lamb chops a la Nic as the sun sets. A bit more work putting our sails away before that.

Hei āpōpō,

Us
