Hi guys!
We’ve made it back into good reception for our non-safety equipment. We’ve had a couple of good days sailing wise, moving the ship from Whangaruru to Whangamumu (Day 4) and then Whangamumu to Paradise Bay, Urupukapuka Island, today.
Upon arrival at Whangamumu, we went on a walk over the saddle South to the wild Pahi Bay where people swam and beach-combed and generally enjoyed being off the ship for a bit. This morning, before we left, we changed up the normal off-the-ship swim routine for a swim under a fresh water waterfall up a beautiful gully above the site of the old whaling station. It was nice to wash some salt off!
After a PANCAKE breakfast, we left Whangamumu and bashed our way into the wind to Motukokako (Hole in the Rock) at the end of Cape Brett. Once past there, it was hands to stations and more sails set as we turned back into the Tucker’s home – Ipipiri, Bay of Islands – made it!
We anchored up in Paradise Bay, had lunch, said goodbye to Kelly, and got into the Trifecta. The trifecta involves three activities all happening at once with trainees rotating through: climbing up and out on the lower topsail yard for a Tucker Bracelet, learning to drive the tender, and learning to sail Little Tuck the sailing dinghy. Everyone participated wholeheartedly, even now on Day 5! We’re going well!
We have just had a curried sausage dinner from Tom and a desert of cinnamon scrolls from two of the girls. The trainees have elected their positions for their takeover day tomorrow and have made a plan.
Well let you know a bit about that tomorrow night and the rest you’ll hear about the day after (or the days after that).
See you soon!
