Day 3 today, almost halfway!
We woke up 0700 and everyone quickly jumped in the water then got straight into learning to lift anchor and do engine check. We got moving as soon as we could so that we could make a special trip out to the Poor Knights! Lucky sailors didn’t even have to do the cleaning roster this morning – we will make up for this tomorrow morning though!
There was a bit of cloud and weather as we headed out but once we got out to the Poor Knights it had cleared to perfect snorkelling conditions. We were all into our wetsuits ahead of time (apart from Tom who started to cook lunch) and as soon as possible to tender loads of trainees were in the water. There was plenty of life in the water today, from big snapper and a kingfish to clouds of the smallest jellyfish and krill. It was awesome!
We came back to soup and cheese rolls for lunch and motored along the coast to have more of a look at the Jurassic Park-like islands. A bit of rain came through followed by a good wind, so we set sails and have caught it almost all the way to Whangaruru. We are preparing to wear ship into the harbour now where we will have good shelter for the night. We are looking forward to Cottage Pie for our dinner and maybe a game before bed.
