2502 – Rā Tuaono – Day 6

it rained hard through the night but surprisingly we woke to an oily calm sea with an overcast sky. Pink and orange tinted the clouds in the east as the sun tried to make its self felt. The early morning plunge over the side was distinctly cold, none the less the whole crew had all quickly swum, changed and cracked on with the daily chores.

Today is takeover day, the trainees have learned all the skills (well some of them at least….) to manage the ship themselves, after breakfast the team quickly went to their stations. Kaia, Johnny and Edekai raised the anchor, Maya, Cassie, Emma and Gaia hoisted the Foresail and set the squares. Our new captain Charlene and her first Mate Guitana helped out Adelaide, Anthony and Armani to hoist the main whilst at the same time navigating us down the Te Puna inlet and through the shallows of Kent Passage before sailing across the bay to Motuarohia.

With the Anchor dropped we had a quick lunch before heading ashore to climb the hill, play some beach games and have a long raucous swim! The cold chill in the air held no one back!

back aboard ship themselves swimming continues along with the hilarious banter. The smell of a roast is filling the ship and wafting up the hatches. Some of the girls have mixed up a delicious looking lemon cake. No one will be hungry tonight.

Everyone is excited to know there’s some strong wind in the forecast for tomorrow, the trip will end with one final exciting sail!
see you all in Opua at 1pm tomorrow
