Ahoy from the good ship!
Last full day on the ship today, and a busy one it has been. We woke up for a chilly swim this morning, with a cold southerly blowing through the rigging. After a wash, chores were done before breakfast. Then all the trainees went for a snorkel to find some fat kina.
Once back from that successful mission, we did some more lessons about the history of the Bay, tides, recycling and celestial navigation.
Time for lunch, what a feast we had! Fresh snapper baked in the oven and snapper ceviche with coleslaw, and falafel for those who don’t eat fish.
After that re-fuel, we tidied the ship and prepared to go for a sail. This was a very special moment. Trainees took over the ship with Captain Alysha in charge. They hoisted the mainsail, foresail, headsails and lower topsail with very little direction from the crew! An amazing effort, which demonstrated their capability as a fully functioning team. We, as crew, could not be more proud.
Then we headed off towards the Black Rocks and Moturoa Island. Anchor down at Bucket of Kai Bay, we went ashore to go check out the WW2 gun emplacements, play a game of capture the flag and do our silent time.
Now we are about to have a big feed of roast pork for our final dinner. Spirits are high and lots of noise is coming from the saloon where the trainees are eagerly awaiting their kai.
