YTH 2317 – Rā Tuatahi – Day 1

Today marks the first day of our voyage, with the weather showing up it made for great sailing. We set the fore sail clocking 7 knots around Tapeka. Once we had lunch, our famous mac and cheese from chef Tom we then set a reef main sail and one head sail then headed into 30 knot winds. The trainees became very familiar with the lines and sails and tacked out to open seas. This made for perfect bowsprit riding where the trainees clipped their harness in and felt the full force of the swells. After that, we came back into the Bay to our anchorage in Otupoho Bay (Homestead Bay) for a quick swim off the ship. After our swim in the sun, we then went to shore to play games on the beach, testing our leadership abilities. We are now settling down for the evening eating our delicious nachos by chef Zhané. We’re already looking forward to Day 2. Stay tuned whānau for more epic adventures.
