YTH-2008 Tahi Ra

Kia Ora from the R. Tucker Thompson

Today was the first day of our 8th voyage of the season. We were pleased to welcome eleven trainees onboard the ship.

As we departed Opua, we gather around the helm and played a name game and then unpacked our belongings. Then the trainees were split up into their specific teams for the voyage. On Port watch we have Abby, Florence, Boston, Frieden and Brody. On Starboard watch we have Sophia, Cajun, Zara, Anika, Azariah and Sapphire. After that, and in their specific teams, the trainees got a full orientation of the ship.

By 13:30, we dropped the anchor at Awaawaroa Bay, just in time for lunch. The trainees then enjoyed their first experience of climbing the rigging and the bowsprit.

We then made our way ashore, to stretch our legs and played more games and get to know each other. Already a lot of fun with these new trainees.

We came back on the ship by 17:00 and some of us decided to try the swing rope and went for a swim around the ship.

We are now enjoying some free time, before having our first dinner together.

We are looking forward for what the rest of the evening brings and what Tomorrow will bring.

Po Marie.
