YTH2311 – Rā Tuarima – Day Five

Kia Ora Whānau

Let the sea shanties begin! After our usual morning cold dip in Tutukaka and breakfast, we did our morning chores and prepared for our wicked sail ahead. We lifted the anchor and all stood by our sail stations waiting for Captain Marcel to give our orders. Before we knew it we were hammering into 2m swells and trimming our sails to perfection. While we were cracking nearly 8.5 knots at times some of us jumped out onto the bow net and some of us decided to test our courage by climbing up the mast and enjoying the view from up high. The sail led us into learning how to tack and as we sailed around Whangārei heads our pizza was ready up on deck. A nice warm pizza after a full on sail in some overcast weather, what could be better. After we dropped the anchor we stowed the sails away and got into some water colour paints and arts and crafts to process our experience. We then proceeded to jump in the chicken tender and face the wet weather to play some games on the beach. Getting ready for a yummy boil up and pudding from our amazing chef Zhané. Ready for another amazing day tomorrow! Last full day before we see our friends and families again!
