YTH2311 – Rā Tuatoru – Day Three

Kia ora whānau,

Today has felt like a bit of a change of pace, but we are still tracking according to plan. This morning while our legendary skipper and first mate sorted us out a replacement outboard to ensure the epic missions can continue, we spent some time enjoying the comforts of our ship: moving through it blindfolded, watching some eggs zip lining and learning about history and navigation. Soon enough we were on our way again, headed towards Whangamumu harbour. We set sail again near Motu Kokako, had some lunch and not long after that were we anchored in Whangamumu and exploring the historic remains of the whaling station. Since we spent most of our day absorbing information we decided to cool down and relax at the nearby waterfall. With some daylight hours left to spare and our sights set on the Poor Knights tomorrow, we’ve decided to hoist up our rag and carry on a little further down the coast to the safe and cosy Whangaruru harbour, under the setting sun.

Pō mārie koutou katoa, tune in again tomorrow.
