enjoying a boat ride on a river

Kia ora whanau,

What an epic day we have had. We woke up to the sun coming over the hill in the beautiful Whangaruru harbour.

Zhynaliyah was the first in for morning swim. Once everyone had gone for a dip, the duties were completed. Then breakky was consumed and dishes done before trainees got into their groups and went through engine checks, weather and nav and anchor duties. Then we hoisted the anchor and headed out for our next adventure, stopping briefly to do a man overboard procedure.

With the Poor Knights as our destination, we hoisted the mainsail, foresail and heads and managed to keep a steady 6 knots of speed. On the way trainees did some lessons on buoys and beacons and navigation. Once there, we went for a tiki tour through Rikoriko cave and then went around the corner to go for a snorkel. All the trainees made the most of it and went for a snorkel in the amazing waters.

That took up the rest of the afternoon, and we made it back to the ship just in time to hoist the dingy and sails and make our way to Tutukaka for our night anchorage.

Now we are just coming in to our anchorage, with the smells of corned beef wafting through the ship.
