It was a sunny day to this morning’s antics.
Aaliyah was first in the water once again, followed by Javed, Chevy, Travis, Emma H, Emma S, Brianna and Kira, Tea, Leonora and Teina took a little convincing to get in.
This was shortly followed by the morning duties then breakfast.
Once breakfast settled and dishes were done, we hoisted the anchor and fore sail and made our way around the corner to Urupukapuka Bay.
On arrival we launched the tender and headed straight for the beach.
Aaliyah had been given the responsibility to lead the group (She was the only one with a map) and we had planned on walking most of the island (4.2 km).
Along the hike, a huge rain cloud came out of nowhere and drenched everyone… With a freezing southerly wind and more rain on the way we made a group decision to turn back and head to the ship. Lucky we did because just as we arrived back more rain followed by 40 knot winds blew over us.
Back on the ship, the trainees changed into warm clothes, before some class work of navigation, passage planning, wind, weather and tides, fishing regulations and finances were underway.
Just to stretch their minds a bit we played a few games around the table like mafia and some magic tricks before hoisting anchor and setting a course for tonight’s anchorage in Paroa Bay.
We plan on having a beautiful curry for dinner, and we have many more fun activities planned for the trainees to complete over the next few days before they head home, including hopefully some snorkelling with friendly fish.
Overall this week’s weather hasn’t been amazing, but we always have plenty of things to do on the Good Ship.
