Today’s blog has been written by by our trainees, a team effort with a special shout out to Sybil for bringing all the ideas together.
This mornings swim was chillier than expected and the trainees connected over their breakfast. An unexpected twist of events led to their delectable dessert turned into breakfast. Scrub the decks, clean the toilet, lunch preparation and that was a kickstart.
We then set off on our adventure, off to Urupukapuka we went. Loud laughter and good memories we spent. We set a trail through to Otehei bay to meet two gracious women, Abby and Kirsty. We learnt of the variety of birds, insects and trees while trying our very best to shoo off those annoying grass flees. Not only did we explore that island in laps, but we were taught how to redo weta punga monitoring stations. This experience was described as observing, discerning and unsettling but overall our trainees were keen for all the learning. Our ride back on the dingy though was wild, screechy and wet.
Now I’m no Dr Seuss but my wrists are sore. Hopefully we can get to bed soon before I start to become a bore.
And that’s a wrap for our trainees blog, thanks for reading! As for the remainder of the evening, we are making our way towards Whangamumu, a sunset and starlight sail, wrapped tightly on deck in warm sleeping bags and jackets, cottage pie cooking in the oven.
We hope you can enjoy the stars from wherever you are too.
